The original broadcast of this episode featured the song, "Rock n Roll High School" by The Ramones. This explains Lizzy's remark, "You should see the movie." , in the scene where Lizzy and Novino dance in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most chilling episodes--and one in which Denzel Washington really comes in to his own as an actor. Phil hasn't been emphasized on the series much before this. He survived two bombings in a single day, but little was done with this. But here he does his community service at a crisis hotline and tries to talk a teenage girl out of blowing her brains out. You can really see how Phil's believes he's made a difference. But he can't control what "Amy" does. He can't see more than a glimpse into her life (we, the viewers, can see just a little more). Yet he comes to care about this person he's never met. He believes he's helped her, and then . . . the ending is one of the most abrupt and shocking I've ever seen.
