And so we say goodbye to Peter White. One of the things I appreciate about St. E is that it takes a character who is utterly reprehensible and makes us care about him, at least a little or at least about the effect he has on others. Jack's eulogy explains why Peter was his friend and why Jack never accepted the truth about Peter's actions. And Myra explains that the Peter she knew in Providence had changed when he came to Boston. In the previous episode, there's a scene of Peter playing with his children. It's not unlike Auschlander planting a tree with his grandchildren in this episode. We admire Auschlander. We can at least admire this aspect of Peter. Few people are 100% good or evil. Peter was a screwed-up individual whose actions carried fatal consequences, but he was also a loving father and a brilliant diagnostician. I love it that the show makes us look at both sides.
